Teach your dog or cat to ring the doorbell

petsafedoorbell.jpg

They say you can't teach an old dog new tricks, but with the Smart Pet Doorbell, you can teach him to ring whenever he wants in or out.

Those swinging pet doors can be okay, but back when I had a cat, I found it was only a matter of time before he was bringing in friends and throwing parties when nobody was home. Eventually we closed off the door, and simply let the cat in or out once he made enough noise. The Smart Pet door solves this problem with a tiny RFID tag that you attach to Fido's collar that rings a doorbell when he gets within three feet of the door.

After you get tired of jumping up to open the door, you could always toss Fido the key to his own bachelor pad.

The Smart Pet Doorbell is available now for about $90.

Or you could just hang a bell off the door handle with a string for about $2. My dog just uses her nose to ring it when she wants out (read, pretend to go the bathroom so that she can get a cookie).

In her later years she's used it for human attention in general. She'll ring it and go to her water bowl if it's low or empty. Ring it and walk to her food bowl if she wants to be fed (hand fed, as there is always food in her bowl, but she likes the food tossed piece by piece to her so she can chase it rolling across the floor).

really it's all quite ridiculous, but she's cute and probly only going to be around a few more years (she's a 12-year-old Miniature Schnauzer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miniature_schnauzer)
