Sony announces a 'new' PSP, tacks on two lackluster features

PSP-1000-classic.jpg
Sony has a new version of its PlayStation Portable coming out, called the PSP-3000. If you were hoping for any major changes — such as a redesigned button layout for a more comfortable grip or even more power than before — keep waiting. Instead, you've got a microphone built-in that will enable the PSP to double as a phone (while not looking as ugly as the N-Gage) and, presumably, enable DS-style microphone-based video games. Also — wait for it — a brighter, more vibrant screen that'll work better outdoors.

Thanks, Sony.

It took a slimmer, lighter PSP with redesigned ports and double the RAM to make the jump from the PSP-1000, pictured above, to the PSP-2000, and consumers responded by buying the new PSP as a replacement for the older model. Is a microphone and a dubious new screen enough to convince you to toss out that 2000 for the new 3000?

Sony can really provide the best for the buyers.

Surreal! I was just saying to some guys over lunch that I could see Sony bringing out a new PSP in the next few months.

However I was bang off with the changes! I was anticipating more functionality, especially with the web browser, to bring it in line and match the standard of that on the ipod touch.

A built in mic and slighty improved screen - what a waste of time! I definately won't be ditching my 2000 version for those two features!

I used to work for EB fixing these things... don't waste your money on handhelds... seriously

WTF? WOW ok lets add a mic, like anyone will use that save for like 5% of psp owners, and oh yah the screens not bright enough so we need to fix that. why not add something nice like say, and extra thumb stick with improved accuracy and analog stick buttons when you press them, for more control.

They didn't add the mic to improve the system whaty they did is they put a new (currently) un-hackable cpu inside of it and then polished it with a shitty screen and bad mic.
