Robo-Cop-A-Feel: Tokyo lab develops E-Skin for next-gen robots

roboskin1.jpgGood news for all the morally challenged robot fetishists eagerly waiting for the ultimate fem-bot to be created—when they arrive in stores they will have touch sensitive skin. Scientists at the University of Tokyo have created "e-skin" that conducts electricity and can be used for covering all manner of robots. One of the project researchers told the press, "As robots enter our everyday life, they need to have sensors everywhere on their bodies like humans…"

Created by grinding carbon nanotubes with an ionic liquid the researchers say the rubberized material might even one day be used for human enhancements. That's right, not only will the early adopter robots be touch sensitive, but when humanity reaches the Borg stage our rubber skin interfaces will already be old hat.

I like the idea of sensitive robot skin, not because I want to marry a robot, but because I have ideas for medical science that could use something like E-skin. If all goes well, some of my prototypes could be viewed on this site, but that is if i get the help i require.

I too like the idea of sensitive robot skin, not because I have ideas for medical science, but because I want to marry a robot. Now.

this is good news.. this may be the beginning of a new Microsoft or General Motors. It may be wise to invest in this technology.... we will use androids and developing a more human-like skin would be a huge breakthrough.

Good, when I spank a robot. I want it to "sting"!!!This development ought to enable great leaps in robotic design. Nex-Gen stuff.. yeah, cool.

I'd take heed when it comes to things like these. As with anything early development would be unstable. What is to come if they replace the workforce? The idea is a notion that we all hold... to avoid doing something. I think some manors of beasts should be carefully considered what role the should play if we are to create them. What extent do we control them when they have a mind and will of their own? Or if the owner him/herself has their own ideas of world domination, murder.. larceny. exc.
