Polk SurroundBar 360 delivers home theater sound without the speaker jungle

polksurroundbar.jpg

Today's best high end home theater rigs can rival the movie theater experience, but who wants to fill up the living room with a jungle of speakers? Sure, there are plenty of other surround bar type speakers on the market, but Polk Audio has carved out a niche by not relying on sound bounced off the room's wall to generate a surround effect. Yesterday, company founder Matthew Polk demonstrated the new SurroundBar 360 DVD Theater, which takes simplicity a step further by adding a dedicated DVD player/amplifier/tuner thing that they call a console. This simple two-piece system filled the hotel suite with spacious out-of-the-box sound, and surprisingly deep bass for something so slim.

The SurroundBar 360 DVD Theater will be available in September for $1199

What is the power output? I can't find it anywhere. Does the purchaser need to purchase a receiver, or is it included. Does it have sufficient power? Does it really work well enough without a subwoofer?
