Today's best high end home theater rigs can rival the movie theater experience, but who wants to fill up the living room with a jungle of speakers? Sure, there are plenty of other surround bar type speakers on the market, but Polk Audio has carved out a niche by not relying on sound bounced off the room's wall to generate a surround effect. Yesterday, company founder Matthew Polk demonstrated the new SurroundBar 360 DVD Theater, which takes simplicity a step further by adding a dedicated DVD player/amplifier/tuner thing that they call a console. This simple two-piece system filled the hotel suite with spacious out-of-the-box sound, and surprisingly deep bass for something so slim.
The SurroundBar 360 DVD Theater will be available in September for $1199
