Pick Chair: furniture disguised as wall art

pick_chair_main.jpg

Here's a deliciously brilliant solution to a common problem — what to do with your extra chairs when you don't need them. When you have friends over, a couple of Pick Chairs will beef up your sitting space. Then, when the party's over, they disappear by unfolding into elegant wall art (insert your own Transformers reference here). The chair frame is made of aluminum, with wooden panels attached, though the designer, Dror Benshetrit, also shows Picks with glass panels on his site. Check them out, along with a couple of other Pick designs, in the gallery below.

This is a great idea for apartments and other small spaces that don't have a lot of room for storage. If there's any problem, it's that the chairs don't look like they could hold that much poundage — you'd best segregate your party guests into weight classes, steering the skinnier folks toward the Picks.

Made by Italian manufacturer BBB emmebonacina, the Pick chair starts at $1,630. Though if you have that kind of cash to burn, you could just rent some storage space and hire some guys to move your chairs. I'm just saying…
