Meridian 810 Reference Video System is way better than your TV

Meridian810.jpg

If you ever figured you'd hit the pinnacle of the TV resolution mountain once you got that bitchin' new 50 inch 1080p screen set up in your crib, think again. Moving way past what they always told us was 'Full HD', the new 810 Reference projection system from England's Meridian, redefines what you can do when you throw wheelbarrows full of cash at the problem. Boasting a resolution of 4096x2400 or about 10 megapixels, at yesterday's press preview we saw that the 810 Ref can fill even the most gigantic screen with truly spectacular images.

Because you can't exactly go to Amazon and buy 10MP movies yet, the 810 Reference comes with a video scaler using a technology called Qdeo from a company called Marvell. No, not the Marvel, they have only one 'L', but I figure it must still include some real superheroic scaling power as connecting it to the projector involves no fewer than 4 HDMI cables.

Quite how the Meridian will stack up against the ultra hi-rez Sony SRX-R110 I saw in Jeremy Kipnis' home theater isn't known, but I can tell you that the Meridian is way quieter in operation.

The 810 Reference Video System will be available in the fall for a mere $185,000

It’s expensive, but it’s quiet, sharp, and the scaler really fills in where the source is missing. A very compelling combination - and a great use of this technology. If you have the money . . . you owe it to yourself to consider it!

Thank you, Bob Stuart and Meridian for getting it . . . RIGHT!

Cheers -
