The iPhone 3G frenzy is in full swing this morning, and the transactions aren’t happening as quickly as Apple would like. The iPhone 3G requires in-store activation, and the first purchaser at the Boston Apple Store walked in at 8am and didn’t leave with iPhone 3G in hand until 8:25.
The company’s Senior VP of marketing Phil Schiller, lingering with his son inside an Apple Store in Boston, seemed to be enjoying the show despite the slow-moving line of buyers, according to our buddy Jordon Golson of The Industry Standard who spoke with Schiller there.
Shiller told Golson, “I've been getting reports from stores all over the world. Some of them report 10-minute activations, some 15, some 20. This is the first time we've done this process -- it's something totally new to us." He added, “We'll get better at it as the day goes on.”
And we thought we’d just waltz in and pick up an iPhone 3G today. Maybe tomorrow would be a better bet.

The Boylston line at noon was bad. I waited 30 minutes to move 5 feet. When employees are handing out water, popsicles and sun tand lotion to people in line, you know it's a problem!
