The Crown Estate of England has just purchased the prototype of the world's largest wind turbine, the 7.5 megawatte MBE by clipper. For comparisons sake, the monster in the picture above is Clipper's Liberty, which produces 2.5 megawatts. Yeah, it's pretty large.
Rather than being placed on land, the new giant turbine will be placed in deep waters off the coast of the UK, providing energy for the mainland from the high winds out on the ocean. It's not clear just how many homes the turbine will be able to power, but we can definitely get behind an investment in renewable energy this large.

They do this in Denmark as well, but you don't hear about the hundreds of migrating birds that get killed each year running into the windmills.
