NASA's Hyperwall 2 is a 23 x 10-foot display that puts your TV to shame

hyperwall1.jpg

NASA just unveiled its Hyperwall 2, the world's highest-resolution visualization system. What's that mean? Well, it's a 128-screen display that covers an entire wall, capable of rendering a quarter billion pixel graphics. It's 23 feet wide and 10 feet tall. Yeah, it's big, and it's awesome.

Unfortunately, they won't be playing Crysis on it anytime soon. Instead, it'll be used to "view, analyze, and communicate results from NASA’s high-fidelity modeling and simulation projects supporting the safety of new space exploration vehicle designs, atmospheric re-entry analysis for the space shuttle, earthquakes, climate change, global weather and black hole collisions." OK, that sounds pretty neat and everything, but seriously, NASA: let them hook up an Xbox 360 to that thing in the off hours. It'll be totally worth it, I swear.

So what's the difference between this and a bunch of stacked TV's? I would be more impressed to see a seamless wall that size.

exactly i remember a show i saw that had a tv that was like 16' x 10' and it was seem less. this only has like 3' on it, and that could be in the seems.
i say weak once i find that tv i will put up a link on here

ComCast has a huge million pixel wall in their home office lobby in Philly that's like 3 stories tall by god know how many feet wide that puts this to shame... Check out the vids of it on Youtube... it is a hell of a lot more impressive than this... And you'd think NASA would have better than this, seeing how much of our tax dollars they get.

You're kidding, right? NASA doesn't get half the funding it really needs, and every bit of it gets used for research, training, etc.

let's put it this way. Taking inflation into account , nasa's budget is the same as it was back in the 60s

A comment to Waji: sniffle!

Those of us who believe space exploration is a beneficial (even necessary) thing are still out there; we're just fewer. Sniffle! :(

Yeah its true that the Comcast Screen beats this one in shear size, but in pixels per inch this Screen has 7.548 Thousand Pixels per inch, + at that size it seems very useful for Nasa's purposes.
