Essential beach party footwear: Reef Fanning bottle opener sandals

reef_sandal.jpg

Combining the two essential accessories of beach time — sandals and beer — these special flip-flops have a bottle opener built right into the sole. With the Reef Fanning sandal, you can be the champion of the beach party when forgetful Phil pulls out the cooler full of Sam Adams but forgot his opener.

The Fanning comes in guys and girls versions (the one pictured is for the ladies), each costing in the neighborhood of $60. That strikes me as a lot for flip-flops, but they also have a soft heel "airbag" that makes them more comfortable, plus the reviews seem to give them a thumbs up. That's enough for me to give them a try this summer, though I'd be careful taking them through airport security.

check out the Reef Dram sandal too. They have a "hidden" flask in the sole. get someone to wear those and you have a party.

This appeared during the spring break party in the 'Greek' series.

I've seen these from other makers, and slightly cheaper too. And of course you can buy hats with the beet openers. The only problem I find is, what if you step into something...garbage, dog doo, or something equally gross. Maybe its just the germaphobe in me.

Name a beach where glass bottles are allowed? Every beach in California that I have been to glass was always forbidden.

I was going to say they were in Greek, but I just passed through the living room and heard a story about shoes being horribly coated with bacteria.

Looked it up, and...

These are great. I've been wearing them for years and even got married while wearing a pair. (As were all my groomsmen)

Good news: I put them through the airport screeners all the time with no problems.

Bad News: You really have to take them off to open the beer. I think they could fix this if they reversed the opener. If the tab was on the heel side instead of the toe side, it would work better.

Slow news day? These have been out for years now!

i've had a pair of these for a few years now. they've held up remarkably well (as have most Reef flip-flops i've owned), and they're well worth the $60 price (though i actually paid far less). they also come in surprisingly handy; even at BBQs.
