Electric motorcycles and scooters have made a lot of progress lately, and one of the first plug-in motorcycles to ship will be this Electric Motorsport GPR-S, known in Southeast Asia as the E-Boxer. The good news is its charging time, letting you replenish its lithium ion batteries by plugging it into an ordinary electrical outlet for a mere 90 minutes.
An unusual feature is its tweakability, letting you adjust its speed and mileage settings by plugging it into your Windows laptop. Its makers say that when you set its speed to 60mph, they’ve been averaging a range of 40 miles, well within the average round-trip distance of the majority of commuters.
Electric Motorsport plans to build 300 of the Electric GPR-S motorcycles this year at a price of $8000, and is now accepting orders for the first 100 production units, set to ship this summer. While it's no Harley, we like the idea of a quiet, fast electric bike, and it doesn’t look half bad, either.

If you like this, check out the Brammo Enertia Bike. Pretty slick looking, too.

I want one of these. I want a bike and this looks like a good one to start with. I hope its all that they say it is.

for starters they should at least put a wind sheild on it and (call me crazy) but brush steel would be nice

Noise is one of the best things going for a motorcycle in terms of safety. Blinking, hich visibility lights help too. I'd be scared to death of riding this bike. Too slow and too stealth for the freeways, but it might be decent on surface streets. I'd worry about pedestrians failing to hear me coming though.

Poor speed, poor commuting range, and I'd be terrified to ride this thing with no engine noise. Also too expensive. This is just a little play toy for someone with a "look at me" pocketbook. It might be fine for going to a neighborhood grocery or a neighborhood ride but that's about it.

On top of all that, GPRS can only hit a max speed of 114 kbit/s, which doesn't seem like it would be nearly fast enough for a motorcycle. Sorry for that, but it was the first thing I thought of when I read the headline.
