Redesigned NES is maybe 15 years too late

renesed.jpgThe original Nintendo Entertainment System is a pretty strange choice for a gadget to redesign, what with it being a couple decades old and everything, but you can't argue with how slick the reNESED concept design is.

Featuring wireless controllers and a bold new color scheme, reNESED keeps the spirit of the original while bringing it into the 21st century. I certainly don't have any of my old cartridges still kicking around, having sold them back to a used game store to upgrade to a Super Nintendo some many years ago, but if this acted as an emulator and came loaded up with games I'd have a hard time saying no.

KickASS, is this being made by nintendo or is this somebody's basement creation

By Joe Bomer at 3:41 AM ON 05/08/08

I think it's just someones basement creation. I don't think it's profitable for Nintendo to sell a 25 year old system, especially since you can't even buy cartridges except through ebay.

I think smaller would be better... I have a NES emulator on my Palm Treo, and I can play games anywhere I am. A great on for Palm owners is called L.J.P. and it;s a free download!

By ern at 9:31 AM ON 05/08/08

Honestly, it's the ugliest thing I've seen in a long time. Clunky and dated. The original NES looks better than this crap.

up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, b, a, start.

By Dorg at 12:32 PM ON 05/08/08

Dudes, this is a 3D render, it's not real. CGI.

By tabbyjal at 12:59 PM ON 05/08/08

someone already remade the NES it is called the the Generation NEX by playMessiah.

By Etna at 1:36 PM ON 05/08/08

Apparently people missed where it says "concept design."

By praetorian75 at 7:11 PM ON 05/08/08

Weebork, you screwed up the code.

It's up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, b, a, SELECT, start. No workie without the select, man.

CP

By krabstarr at 7:22 PM ON 05/08/08

Praetorian75, the SELECT isn't even part of the code, it's only used to move the cursor to the 2 PLAYER setting if so desired.

Doing the code without select starts a 1 player game with the code.

What is this the KITT Special edition?

By Akumajou at 9:50 AM ON 05/14/08

where have you guys been the pantent ran out on the NES a few years back. So multiple knockoffs have been made.

By vaterite at 1:31 PM ON 05/14/08

If "bold new color scheme" means they added red and black, then sure. What they Should've done was figure out a way to make it top loading, like the Famicom, so the things don't break so easily.

By flashdrive at 3:43 PM ON 05/14/08

Hehe Akumajou, patents last for 50 years. :)

By Not as Dorkie as YOU at 8:18 PM ON 05/14/08

Flashdrive, what a complete idiot you are.

Patents last for 17 years. Wherever you got 50 from, you must have been smoking some nasty ass stuff.

As for what they should do: 1. Make it so that both old cartridges, and new discs work inside of it. Also, give it a small hard drive to keep your progress.

The real question is, "Why does DVICE keep showing us pictures of gadgets that aren't even prototypes?" Is this a tech blog or an art show?

By StoneRyno at 11:00 AM ON 05/16/08

I'd buy a revamped NES if it came preloaded with all the games. Otherwise there is no real point. I sold all of my NES stuff a long time ago because I tired of all the space it took up mostly just sitting there. But a system that had all the games stored internally instead of relying on cartridges and it worked just as if I was playing the NES system then I would buy it in a heartbeat as long as it was reasonably priced. I wouldn't pay $100s. I believe this exact thing was done for Atari not sure which one it was but I remember playing it when I was very young.

By Zippy at 3:17 AM ON 05/20/08

if it had the whole NES library built in, like one of those super old school game re mods I may buy it... but price would be a significant factor.
