If you're an aspiring photographer, once you get a digital SLR (DSLR), you start wanting to fiddle with lighting. You’ll probably end up with an external flash unit that mounts on top of the camera, but it’s not perfect. That light will always come from the same boring direction, but you need to be more creative. That’s where this PressLite VerteX attachment can help.
Its two panels let you reflect just the amount of light you need, bouncing part of it off the ceiling for that soft, indirect look, while aiming the rest of the light at your subject. That’s just one of many possibilities. It's also easy to use, moving it to exactly the right configuration with one hand, keeping the other free to hold the camera, aim and shoot. Considering what it can do, PressLite VerteX is dirt-cheap at $34.95.

It looks like a fun gadget, but I am thinking it would be relatively cumbersome to use all the time. I'd probably break it.
Still, turning one flash into two is a neat trick and the price is appropriate. I'd give it a shot.

I have had a pre-production version of the Presslite VerteX in my hands for the past week and will be publishing a review of it by Tuesday of this week (September 15 or 16th). It will be published over at cameratown.com

The device gives you a lot of control but puts on you the burden of making sure that the panels are pointing into the right direction during each shot. Check out the full review for more details.
