FakeTV makes it look like the biggest couch potato ever is home
Nothing says "people are home" like a window with the flickering light of a TV coming out of it. I mean, if I was a thief I certainly wouldn't try to break into a house that looked like it had people plopped on the couch inside it. I'd just move on to the next dark house on the block.
That's why the FakeTV exists. It's just a light that uses an array of colored, flashing LEDs to create the illusion of a TV left on. Next time you go on vacation, simply set it up in the living room and make your house look like someone's home at all times. At $49 it's a heck of a lot cheaper than a security system, and you'll have the added bonus of feeling smarter than the criminals, which you really can't put a price on. Hit the jump to see a video of it in action.

I like it. It's the modern equivalent of the motion sensing barking dog. Since it's LED you can probably run it all year long for about $5.

You still need good locks, and a light on a timer remains a good idea. Stop the paper and mail when you are out of town, and get to know your neighbors - that gives you the extra benefit of a more-connected life!
That said, an operating television really conveys the impression of life, and FakeTV is convincing occupancy simulation.

Yeah, my tv has a auto on/off program. Case solved without having to buy something extra.

I think I'll just run the demo video on continuous loop on an LCD projector with some LEDs behind it.
