A team of engineers at the University of California at Berkeley have developed a technology that allows medical imaging to be sent via cellphone, a prospect that could have huge ramifications for regions with little to no medical technology or expertise in developing countries.

The tech would essentially allow for basic data acquisition devices to be hooked up to phones to perform things such as X-rays and ultrasounds, but with the data from the tests being sent to the more-expensive data processing machines elsewhere for analysis. By splitting the procedures up like this it allows for cheaper equipment in poorer areas. We can get behind that.
