A few days ago we showed you how to build your own robot suit, à la Iron Man. Our northern neighbors must have liked the idea, because on Monday the Canadian Defence Department put out feelers looking for companies to provide it with the same.
The Defence Department isn't looking for infantry that can take on jets in the air, but rather suits that will allow soldiers to easily carry their enormous loads into battle, as well as heavier weapons than they'd normally be able to. The contract is worth around $200,000, and it hopes to get the work done by 2011.
That's pretty cheap for an exoskeleton. It'll be interesting to see if the Canadian government builds something as impressive as the Sarcos exoskeleton, which enjoys a $50 million grant from DARPA.
