Vices of the week: The planet takes center stage

Going green was more than just a theme for us this week — it was literally a way of life for at least one of us. Our bold writer in San Francisco, Steven Leckart, actually went off the grid, cutting himself off from getting power from any wall outlets from Monday to Friday. It was an impressive adventure that answered a lot of questions, like how you jump-start a laptop, whether portable wind power is viable, and if solar-made coffee is in our future.
