Having a gigantic flashlight powered by D batteries in the truck went out with the Pinto. Nowadays it is all about LEDs and rechargeable technology. With cars now including spare 12V DC outlets, better known as cigarette lighter outlets, it is a no-brainer to make a flashlight that recharges through that port.
These rechargeable LED lights come in variety of fun colors, are constructed of high-grade aluminum and will shine for 120 minutes with a seven hour charge. It's available for $25 each. I would buy one hoping to never have to use it, but you never know when one of those newfangled cars will break down.

Nice but it is from a company in England. I ordered with my Debit/VISA card and my bank put a fraud alert on my account and froze my checking account because I do not get things outside USA. Gotta go to bank tomorrow and get things straightened out. HASSLE!

Well got my stuff this morning from UPS. The flashlight has a warning on the package that it does not fit all 12v receptecles. It did not fit my Honda CRV tightly but I fiddled with it for 15 seconds to find the sweet spot for it to charge up (it fits loosely with a lot of wiggle room). Luckily the one receptecle in the rear of the vehicle has a cover to hold it in place. Got flash shirt for work because it is a very noisy place to work in. Shirt works great. All bars showing. Would have gotten the clock one also but they are out of stock and most importantly in this post 911 world I fear walking down the street with a clock lit up on my chest would get a lot of unwanted attention.

12v DC plugs.
Try Radio Shack, and take the flashlight with you. I purchased a MP3 player from Europe, and it took and in between size, in between 1/8" and 1/16".
Good Luck.
