Next week, we go off the grid
Sure, it's fun to read about unfolding solar panels and portable wind-power chargers, but what would it be like to actually use this stuff? In fact, what would it be like if they were the only way you could get power for a week?
One of our writers is about to find out. As part of DVICE's role in NBC Universal's Earth Week, San Francisco resident Steven Leckart is going off the grid next week to see if these renewable-power gadgets are ready for prime time. For five days, his laptop, cellphone, iPod, DS Lite and everything else will get every watt from something other than a power outlet. For the full run-down on his coming activities check out his preview post, and come on back here for his first dispatch Monday, April 21.
