Kobe Bryant jumps over accelerating Aston Martin with 'magic' shoes

NBA star Kobe Bryant is a spectacular jumper, but his insurance company would never let him do a stunt like this. In this Nike ad, Bryant looks like he’s executing a perfectly timed leap over a speeding Aston Martin DB9 Volante.

Is this guy nuts, are those magic shoes, or is there some video sleight-of-hand going on here? As Bryant himself put it, “It’s Hollywood, baby.” Special effects are so user-friendly these days, creating a gag like this would be pretty easy: Shoot one shot with the car, another with him jumping, apply a traveling wipe between the two takes. Done.

youTube user xsalvioutlawx noticed that the car would not have actually hit him had he not jumped... its to his right. (pause the video at about 35.5s) If it was faked the car would be exactly centered on him. Leads me to believe that the shot is real, he would have made it over, but probably did multiple takes and they posted the one in which he timed the jump right and jumped high enough. Looks pretty cool, tho.

Kobe is standing in front of a shadow (boom mike?) and that shadow is covered by the car. So the shadows line up. But as Dave said at about 35.5s it does look like the car doen't line up. It appears as if the car came in at the wrong angle and was turning back toward where Kobe was origonaly standing (the front end of the tire looks like it is turned in toward the viewer.
