AutoRucksack gives your car a backpack

autorucksack.jpgIf you've got a hatchback with a tiny/non-existent amount of trunk space, this Auto Rucksack is for you. Essentially, it's a backpack for your car that mounts on the back window and is detachable, able to be used as a suitcase when you aren't driving.

And while yes, you're sure to be worried about it flying off the back of your car, it's designed specifically for hatchbacks so it'll stay put. And the rollers make it a great way to pack for a trip. Unfortunately, for $425 it might be smarter to just pack lighter and make it fit inside the car. The choice is yours.

good idea...except for the whole blocking the view out the back thing.

not to mention blocking the third brake light.. Gee the gov didn't make that mandatory for nothing.

Lack of cargo space is why I did nto get a hatchback. Not a bad idea. Now design one to go on a regular trunk.

Probably won't be available for long due to litigation. You could probably drive 6 blocks in my city before getting pulled over for an "obstructed view" violation.

You know, this is a case of a product answering a question no one asked. I have had nothing but hatch backs and there is a tremendous amount of luggage space. I had a Golf and my son bought a 36" TV (not a flat screen mind you) and it fit inside with room to spare. That's the whole reason for hatches.

My concern is that what you pack would be stolen wherever you stop for the night or for gas or food.

As long as you have TWO outside rearview mirrors they can not cite you for "obstructed view".

We also drove for many years without the third taillight. I doubt that one trip would be that bad. Then again if you hung the bag as shown in the picture the third light IS visible above the bag. See that red strip?
