Just to dash that first thought of yours: Nope, not a concept. This is real, my friend.
The MonoTracer is an enclosed motorcycle or "cabin cycle," a style of vehicle which experiences a lot less drag than your average motorbike and keeps you from having to pick the bugs from between your teeth later. Its aerodynamic design and 130 horsepower engine get the MonoTracer from zero to 60 in about 5.7 seconds, and it has more speed than you'll ever need, topping out at 155 mph.
The MonoTracer is built by vehicle and engine construction company Peraves, and rolls off the factory floor starting at $82,350. Unless you're drooling gold right now, you may have to wait for Christmas for this one.
Anyway, I know what you're here for. Click through that gallery for more views of the MonoTracer. Oh, yes. Oh, oh yes.

That is awesome but I don't get what happens if you over steer and you drop on a corner?
By timeg at 10:16 AM ON 04/14/08
i don't get it how do you stop at a light. How can you stay in balance?
By ArashSiah at 11:23 AM ON 04/14/08
I see the training wheels would drop down but what if you didn't leave enough space b/w the bike and the cars next to you (lane splittin).
It looks like a disaster waiting to happen. Thanks but I'll pass.
By tsim at 1:41 PM ON 04/14/08
Reminds me of the bike from Tron.
By astralith at 3:08 PM ON 04/14/08
M. Bay, here's ARCEE for ya!
By OCsolace at 6:10 PM ON 04/14/08
Dumbest idea ever. A windshield will keep bugs from your teeth and so will a full face helmet. Insulating and encapsulating the rider from the road or the environment will get riders killed. If you want to develop a recumbent motorcycle, watch the anime classic Akira and go from there.
By markzilla25 at 6:38 PM ON 04/14/08
where's the light trail behind it? One step closer to making Tron a reality!
By Anon 1:50 at 6:46 PM ON 04/14/08
Go look at current state-of-the-art touring bikes (retailing at around $20K) and explain to me what runs up the price tag another $40K? Training wheels? Fiberglass? It isn't even that attractive!
By celtdaddy at 3:42 PM ON 04/15/08
The price is not even near realistic. If it were lowed to something near afordable for the average man I believe they could sell a whole lot more. As it stands now they're nothing more than a rich mans toy!
By Phantomgladiator at 5:12 PM ON 04/15/08
I don't know, it could be a top seller. Just mount of couple of machine guns and G.I. Joes will be all over that!
By Anonymous at 3:20 AM ON 04/16/08
ok its really cool but it seams you can't put your feet down so how do you keep it from falling over at red lights or control it at slow speeds
By Bertman at 4:46 AM ON 04/16/08
I've seen kit bikes like this at a MUCH lower pricetag - they're nothing new. I think the first one I saw was back in the eighties called a "Lightstar" based on a Kawasaki KZ-100. Also, they've got a three-wheel job (2-front, 1-rear) called a "T-Rex" that look a LOT safer.
By Drakkenfyre at 6:17 AM ON 04/16/08
Well, the price is ridiculous.
Unfortunately, in North America you still have to wear a helmet in these things. Hmmmm, or fortunately.
I think it would be great, but until the price is reasonable, it's just not going to go anywhere but the extreme niche market.
By keepdapeace at 6:37 AM ON 04/16/08
Really stupid as well as the stupidly high price. Let's see a Kawasaki 2008 ZX14 at 20,000.00 and a Dadge charger 2008 srt8 Hemi engine and all the speed goodies at 45,000.00 total 65,000.00 leaving 16,000.00 for a down payment on a house to keep it all. You should now get the point.

The old Quazar 2 used the same idea - the problem that it hit was that it had 2 wheels at speed and 4, (counting the stabilisers), at low speed - so do you Tax & Insure it as a bike or a car?
By altima at 9:17 AM ON 04/16/08
Hmmm, you come to a stop light and the training wheels fail to come down...you fall on your side and the hatch won't open....80+K$$$ ouch! Dang, you shouldn't have wasted your money...

Are you going to have it at ( Americade ) This year? It is the worlds largest Motorcycle Touring Rally at Lake George NY, June 2nd too the 8th? I would love to see it
By Brutal Brandon at 11:04 AM ON 04/16/08
The concept of a motorcycle is the open environment and the sense of freedom. This makes me think it's a design idea from someone who doesn't ride. Anything other than a bike on the road is refereed to as a "cage" for a reason.
It's ugly to boot, 0-60 in 5.7 is worse than most cars and all other bikes on the road, training wheels play in to that no doubt. 80 grand? No thanks I'll stay with my Ducati 1098 and HD Fatboy.
By CHEZ at 11:10 AM ON 04/16/08
Part of the joy of riding a bike is the feeling of freedom, the wind blowing on you etc. This is more like a mini-car. It may be good for some people but it kind of defeats the purpose for most motorcycle enthusiasts.
Maybe if I were a superhero?
By Joe at 11:11 AM ON 04/16/08
Agreed, Brandon.
This thing defeats the entire purpose of riding for 99.9% of riders.
By All Too Human at 12:04 PM ON 04/16/08
Ha! CHEZ, that's what I was thinking when I first saw this...BATMAN!
Hey, I got a question. Does it come in black?
By Keith at 5:39 PM ON 04/16/08
It has BMW switch gear on the handlebars, but where are the descriptions and pictures of the running gear. Is it BMW based?
By TargetDriver at 5:54 PM ON 04/16/08
A cage on 2 wheels: the worst of both worlds. This should thin out the overpopulation of the stupid rich.
By TargetDriver at 6:04 PM ON 04/16/08
...I wonder if it comes in a convertable or with a sun roof...suppose it has air conditioning?!? If a person gets one of these they ought to have their head drilled for simples.

Also at a 5.7 sec. 0-60 time Man That's SLOW!!! I have a old Honda Goldwing that does it in 3.sumptin and a big ol Nissan 240SX that does it in 5.0..
There have been several enclosed motorcycles built but, how many do you see on the road???
Sorry but, I'd rather have Kenada's bike instead :/
By sakul59 at 12:29 PM ON 04/17/08
They should just make quads legal for on road use. Here in NY they have to be licensed anyway, but not street legal.
By Dragonwolf0502 at 10:03 AM ON 04/19/08
I'll agree the pricepoint is way to high for even the most ignorant of folks, as for riding enthusiasts no this not up there ally however, for your basic commuters looking to save money at the pump and have some of the same comforts found in a car this is a good start. Along those lines the one thing I don't like about this design is the "training wheels" as so many have dubbed them at lower speeds should they fail it's not only going to hurt the driver( and I say this due to the cabin design) but the driver's pocketbook. As for the lane splitting comment earlier dude, did you really take a good look at this thing it's a little large to be splitting lanes to begin with and the 1st time someone try's I have a feeling they will find out why in most places around the world it's illegal.
By TALKINGBULL759 at 1:01 AM ON 04/20/08
I agree with most of the people,it's stupid & not practical at all, for a lot of reasons that's already been stated. Gas milage can't be the reason for such a high price tag? It's not if you'll lay it down, but when.
By Shran at 7:01 AM ON 04/20/08
For a recumbent 'bike' concept its a little on the dorky side of things, I'm sure the scooter set might be impressed, but I cant imagine too many lovers of bikes converting to this. Why not just buy a small two seater coupe at a fraction of the price (there's plenty to choose from). As OCsolace said, if you want a recumbent motorbike, look to Science Fiction or Anime for some stylist inspiration, there are some great designs out there that look both fun and cool (and would probably actually be worth a 80K price tag) after all if you're going to spend that much - it'd better be a pretty special machine and the Dork-mobile just doesn't cut it.
By dajo60629 at 11:09 PM ON 04/23/08
THE IDEA OF A MOTORCYCLE IS TO FEEL THE WIND ON YOUR FACE, SMELL THE AROMAS OF THE ROAD(BURNING LEAVES, DEAD SKUNKS,EAT THE BUGS) ONLY A RIDER WILL UNDESTAND.THAT ATROCITY WAS MADE BY A CASKET MAKER.
By Universe of Luxury at 2:12 PM ON 04/25/08
