Toshiba drops first laptop with 128GB SSD on board

128ssdlaptop.jpgThe Macbook Air, with its optional SSD drive, has brought flash hard drives into the mainstream, with the energy-efficient and fast HDD replacements looking more and more attractive as prices come down. That's not to say they're down all that much, as evidenced by Toshiba's new Dynabook SS RX1. It's the first laptop to come out with a 128GB SSD, and you pay dearly for it: about $4,000.

In addition to the SSD, you get a 1.2GHz Core 2 Duo processor and a 12.1-inch screen. The small size and efficient hard drive delivers a generous 12.5 hours of battery life, which is certainly impressive, but I'm not quite sure if it's $4,000 worth of impressive. But the good news is that laptops like this will only come down in price over the course of the coming months, so ogle now and save your pennies for when it becomes reasonable.
