The iPhone stylus defeats the purpose of the iPhone

iphone-pogo-sylus.jpgOne of the biggest selling points of the iPhone is the sweet multitouch screen that lets you use your fingers to do any number of things. So it seems kind of odd to me that anyone would want a stylus for their iPhone. After all, styluses are what was used on older, crappier touchscreens. Doesn't this seem like a step back?

In any case, this thing replicates the feeling of a finger, so unlike other styluses, it'll work on the iPhone. It also has a felt tip, so it won't leave oily smudges all over your precious little device. But really, come on. Just use the thing as it was intended to and don't bring it back to the late 1990's, OK?

Haha - no. Daniel Wigdor from Surface gave a guest lecture in my class at Harvard the other day. He pointed out to us that the Sisteen Chappel could have been done with fingerpaint, but wasn't - tools are necessary, and helpful - no one thing is right for all appliations.

i actually think the stylus for the iphone is a good thing. the whole reason why i DIDN'T fall into the hype was because of the fact that the screen was heat sensitive, so even if you wanted to use a stylus, you COULDN'T. do you know how hard it is to text on that thing if you have acrylic nails? you need to literally have man hands/fingers to use that thing. so all in all, i thank the people that came up with this... but i'm still not gunna buy the iphone.

i also think the stylus is a great idea. i, like most people, have naturally oily fingers and my iphone stays streaked and dirty. i'd love to have a little handheld bionic finger to do the touching for me. also, i'm more comfortable holding a stylus than pointing and touching with my finger. again, it's like comparing a paintbrush to fingerpaint. tools are nice.

B.S. Like the man said, the whole point to the iPhone is that you DON'T use a stylus. So the screen gets dirty? Thats why you clean it every night when you get home. All you need is a bottle of iKlear and a soft cloth and viola!

I feel that the stylus is a good idea. i myself find it very hard to text on my iphone without pressing the wrong buttons and it gives me a head ache having to concentrate so hard just to write a simple message. im ordering one right away.

It might not seem all that good an idea to some people but women who have long nails and would like an iphone are probabably dying for one so they can use teh iphone aswell.

A stylus is great for when i use new applications that i need to draw or write my finger is big and goofy to do those. So a pen is perfect but i would not use it all the time. I still love using my finger for browsing thru the smooth interface.

Some people are just clumsy (like me, sometimes), so we miss the right letter and it's indeed frustrating. The good thing about the iPhone is the variety of applications and peripherals it offers... There's always something for every taste. Period
