Jeez, we use a lot of energy we’re not even aware of. Here’s a design concept by Shane Ellis and Terry Brown that’ll lay on the guilt, glowing red when those wall warts are sucking power. The more energy used, the brighter red the outlet glows. Bugged by all that Technicolor nagging? Just turn off the LED and that outlet transforms back into one that looks like all the others.

lutron_outlet.jpgNice design. Now if they could just make it even more colorful, perhaps glowing green to reward us when we’re saving energy. And while you’re at it Shane and Terry, hide those screws on the top and bottom the way Lutron does (pictured at right), and you’ll have a high-end and somewhat entertaining green gadget.

Interesting idea, not sure consumers would pay for identifying a problem without a better "hook" (such as idea to reward energy-saving with green glow) that suggests a solution though.
