MagneTrace pill monitoring system knows what you swallowed

MagneTrace-pill-monitor.jpgResearchers at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology have cooked up a system called MagneTrace that will know what pills you took, and tell your doctor to boot. Worn either as a necklace or a skin patch, the MagneTrace sensor scans for specialized magnets that would need to be embedded inside pills, and be small enough to pass harmlessly through the body. MagneTrace will know what kind of pill you took, when you took it, and be able to relay that information to a cell phone or a medical practitioner.

The system is planned to be used where medicine schedules are important, such as in elderly care homes and clinical facilities.
