Freedom Ship: an improbable floating city for when the ice caps melt

freedomship.jpgAs global warming gets worse, the ice caps will melt. This will raise the levels of the world's oceans, flooding costal areas and cities. So long, NYC! It was nice knowing you, Tokyo! Boy, it sure will be interesting to see what we'll be stuck dealing with, won't it?

One idea is to build gigantic floating apartment buildings such as this Freedom Ship. It's a floating city, essentially a gigantic aircraft carrier designed for civilians to live on. It would have a whopping 18,000 living units that would range in price from $180,000 to $2.5 million, 3,000 commercial units, 2,400 time share units, 10,000 hotel units, a "world class casino," and a bunch of other stuff that seems pretty damned impractical, such as "a School System that gives the students a chance to take a field trip into a different Country each week for academic purposes or to compete with local schools in numerous sporting events." Right. I'll just move to Chicago, thanks.

We already have The World for the super-rich. This ship will be for the upper-middle and upper class. What about the middle class? And will we also get a slum ship for the poor?

This was supposed to be built and sailing by 2001...I remember watching something on the History Channel about it.

WOW! I haven't seen anything on the Freedom Ship in quite some time. I remember hearing about this in the '90s.

I think that this is an awesome idea. It would suck because after a while you will get boared but it would be amazin to live on a cruise ship basically.
