Eco_Drop makes long showers uncomfortable

ecodrop.jpgTaking long, lazy showers might be a great way to relax, but it's also a huge waste of water. Getting a friendly reminder that you're being a water hog is what this conceptual Eco_Drop shower is all about.

The idea behind the Eco_Drop is that if you take too long in the shower, concentric circles will start to raise up from the floor, making standing on them more and more uncomfortable. It's annoying, but not as rash as, say, just arbitrarily turning the water off on you after a set time period. Or, alternatively, you could just have some self control and start taking shorter showers on your own. It's your call.

If I only shower very other day, can I save up my minutes for a longer shower? AT&T gives me rollover, hopefully my shower will as well.

Seriously though, showering doesn't waste water. Sewers are on a closed system in dry areas. There's some loss, sure, but the biggest waster of water is irrigation. Think golf courses, rather than cornfields.

Still, this is kind of a cool concept, even if it doesn't really solve a problem that doesn't really exist in the first place.

Rather stupid.

Water in most areas is treated and recycled and has been for decades. Think of the recent news regarding traces of drugs in our drinking water. Those come from urine, thus we're showering in recycled sewer water.

The worst part about the "Green Movement" is its ignorance.

Water may be abundant (for lucky people in wealthy countries), but the more you use, the more energy is expended in replacing it. Acquisition and purification aren't cheap. There is also a real concern of the ability for supply to keep up with growing demand. Unless you want to start showering in sea water.
