DVICE TV: The RipStik, taking snowboarding indoors
As rollerblading is to ice skating, the RipStik is to snowboarding. Faster, more maneuverable and — let's face it — downright cooler than any skateboard, the RipStik can take your extreme tendencies indoors. Ali Kermani explains why the RipStik will be a hit: "As soon as you get on it, it's smooth, it feels natural, so a skater should be able to pick it up with no issues." "Faster"? I DARE you to take this thing up to 30mph. I dare you. Actually I dare Frooch.
"More maneuverable"? not even close, it requires a huge radius in order to change direction, and is very unstable when turning at high speed.
"cooler than any skateboard" yeah wy don't you take this down to your local skatepark and see how "cool" everyone thinks you are.

furthermore, there is no effective way to become airborn on one of these - yes you can ollie but only a couple inches, not enough to get you up a high curb. The two ROLLERBLADE wheels offer less than 1/2 the footprint of a traditional skateboard, and wear out quickly because of the increased per wheel load and low durometer density of the wheels.
are these things fun? yeah, they kid of are. are they the 'next' skateboard? not a chance in hell.

The only thing it has in common with a snowboard is the same thing a skateboard has in common with a snowboard. it's flat and long. No bindings, and pretty much everything nutbastard said.

ive been snowboarding for a about 5 years now and i rode this thing. its not even close to snowboarding, you have no sliding movement and hardly any (stable) carving movements. And like some1 said above, try taking this up to speed and see if you feel safe. If you want something close to snowboarding check out the freebord. you have all of your sliding movements and also, u can come to a stop just a like a regualr snowboard. I have one myself and i can deffinantly say it is way closer to the snowboard ride than anything else ive ever ridden.

Really the only cool thing about it is that you don't need to push-kick it forward. That is what attracted me to it (I have baaad knees). But, it's really heavy, translation: It takes a lot more energy to maneuver and move. Plus everything Nutbastard said.

I live in Korea at the moment and these things are kind of popular here... if you're 12. You can use it outdoors, but the only time I have ever seen anyone using them are kids in parks.

i have 1 myself, you can get really fast speed on it and feel safe, no maybe not a first, but did u feel safe on a snowboard going 30mph right when u started? i think not. its like $80 US. btw they r very fun, any friend i show this 2 buys 1 and loves it. (dont go dissing b4 u try something, mmmk?)

OH and btw, yes you can take sharp turns on it, and feel stable, its just something more challenging and if u dont like it then go do your snowboarding or skateboarding.

I replaced the wheels with 82A hyperwheels, but damn, an hour of riding in the sun, the rear wheel's cracked. It did go a lot faster than the stock wheels though

Ok i replaced them with 80mm k2 continentals. There's no hardness rating, but i bought them anyway to try them out. And boy they super suck. These wheels are so sticky. It'd be great for bombing hills because they're that sticky. You won't die at the end of a bombing run if you decide to try some turns, quite unlike that youtube vid of the kid with 17 stitches. hoho.
