Move over, Roomba, there's a new cleaning robot in town, and it's designed to clean up messes a lot bigger than some spilled kitty litter. The OSP robots are designed to swarm out in groups and work together to contain oil spills.
Able to be deployed in groups from either a boat or a helicopter, the modular robots quickly surround the spill with an inflatable barrier, containing it and allowing the oil to be sucked out of the water before it does too much damage. It's a pretty great idea, and if it is implemented properly could make a huge difference at the next oil spill.
