This touchless human/machine user interface by Norway's Elliptic Labs is a surefire way to avoid grubby touchscreens as it allows the user to manipulate objects on the screen by simply waving their hands like a wizard. The technology uses a sensor that monitors the position and properties of an object within five feet of it, so not only will you be able to point at the screen to guide the cursor, but your gestures and hand signs will register as well, and control an on-screen object's position and depth.

It will be interesting to see where Elliptic Labs goes next with its interface, and how much support it can drum up. The developer has its eye on anything from general use to more control-intensive applications, such as in video gaming. If the sensor could be made small enough, the company hints, it may even find its way into cell phones and mobiles.
