Ravi solar charger uses attractive design to encourage green living

RAVI-solar-charger-Leigh-Ryan.jpgWould attractive design make you go green? Constructed to look like a flower, the Ravi solar generator has photovoltaic arrays attached to petal-like extensions. And, like a flower, it absorbs energy from the sun during the day, storing it in an internal battery — its petals glow once a battery is charged. At night, you then come out into your glowing garden and remove the battery packs to power your home appliances.

The Ravi isn't supposed to make a difference on it's own, but in numbers. With gardens of Ravi portable solar generators throughout a neighborhood, enough power could be generated to supply the community, or at the very least lessen how much non-renewable energy it needs.

The Ravi portable solar generator is a design by Leigh Ryan, a student at Monash University in Australia. It's named after a benevolent sun god from the Hindu faith.
