Remington’s new PowerMower will make you the greenest mower on the block, and turn your neighbors green with envy. It’s a new cordless mower that uses battery power to give you an hour of clean-energy, guilt-free mowing. Of course, if your lawn is overgrown and the 60-volt battery power just isn’t cutting it (oof), then you can plug it in to get the same power as a gas mower would provide. Oh, sure, it's not as cool as the LawnBott, but do you really want to fly your geek flag that high?
The EPA claims that traditional gas-powered mowers produce as much air pollution as 516,000 miles worth of vehicle emissions, so your purchase alone could be responsible for reducing this number to 515,998, or so. At $500, the PowerMower is a pricey tool investment, but when gas costs $50 per gallon (I’m guessing 2010), you’ll be able to laugh at all your neighbors and their filthy, antiquated gas-powered mowers.

this is what all that global warming garbage had done to your minds.
a decade ago the author of this article would of mentioned not having to having to remember to fill gas cans, and that fact that the mower will be much quieter then the gas powered mowers.....but no, now these days you have authors spewing facts & figures about lawn mower emmisions! :/
who the hell cares about lawn mower emmisions.?!
have tree huggers completely taken over this site as well?!

Is this per year? Per Week? "The EPA claims that traditional gas-powered mowers produce as much air pollution as 516,000 miles worth of vehicle emissions"

You guys have a deal with Remington, or what? Black and Decker has had battery-driven mowers for at least 10 years, and D&R's Neuton line beats them with swappable batteries. Both cost less than this overgrown shaver. Old News.

The way I understand the Remington product is that it is a hybrid. It runs off both electric cord AND battery. I don't think the B&D mower or Neuton does this. According to Remington's web site it also has a boost mode that uses both 120V and the 60DC battery power atthe same time if desired. Also a little investigating will show you that Remington Power Tools is a completely different company than Remington shavers.

Please! The whole idea of a battery mower is so you don't have to plug the damn thing in and be tethered to a cord. What's the point? I owned a B&D mower 10 years ago -- plenty of power. It crapped out and I bought a Neuton -- plenty of power. Looks like the R&D guys didn't get out of the lab much. Also to HOSS point, this company is called DESA, and Remington seems like just a made up name.

I bought a cordless mower at Sears over 12 years ago. This is not new technology. I paid less for it than you are asking now. However, it did have to go into the shop for maintenance on failed parts, but thats normal. This is NOT new technology aand does NOT need to be tthis expensive. Drop the price and you'll sell a bunch of them. Why don't you adopt the Europran marketing attitude. Sell a bunch at a lower price, rather than selling a few for megabucks! Stop being greedy and start being consumer-friendly.

No, it's the tree-huggers who are the selfish ones. The company in question can set whatever price they want and bringing up euro-pricing is idiotic (have you actually seen how much stuff costs in europe in euro's. it is better quality though, so it's worth it imho).
Also, do you think the electricity to charge the batteries on this thing comes from your hamster-powered exercise pad or that coal-burning power plant? You can cheat people all of the time, but you can cheat thermodynamics none of the time. In the unlikely event of someone producing a lawnmower with a 5 or 8 HP motor running on a 12-15 amp circuit, I'll consider it. Until then, I'll stick to either my 2-cycle or 4-cycle mowers.
Why do environmentalists always try to show how much better they are - it's in your face, look at me, look at me, I am saving the environment. Attention whores, is all. Even the fact that there is an environmental movement and zealots is nonsensical. How could you NOT be for the environment??? EH? Yeah, I like crapping where I live. NOT! If you are so concerned about saving the environment, kill yourself - you will save 50,000 barrels of oil right there.
UGGGGHHH!

Compared to other battery-powered mowers, the price on this one isn't bad for what you get. Available for $400 bucks on the web site (free shipping).

MURC and FOO, grow up. Comment about the product, the lawnmower. No one wants to hear or read about your narrow-minded rantings.

Just ordered one, will report on speedy delivery as well as performance. Not fair they charge so much shipping on extra blade, key, etc. This should be included also as free shipping on first order. Lack of Marketing by Remington!
