I may be old fashioned, but when I hear about technology making my life better, I want to be wowed. Take this robot by the DEXMART project, for instance. Known as Justine, the 'bot is agile enough and precise enough to go through the motions of making a cup of coffee. Pretty cool, right? That is, until you learn that it only uses the instant stuff. I'll make my own, Justine. Thanks.
At the head of DEXMART is Naples University Professor Bruno Siciliano, who believes that useful, two-armed robots are still just being realized. Where 'bots with one arm work a variety of jobs, such as assembling cars, he thinks that two-armed robots will similarly revolutionize our lives in less that 15 years.
DEXMART (loosely standing for "DEXterous and autonomous dual-arm/hand robotic manipulation with sMART sensory-motor skills") is a project funded mostly by the European Union and is based out of Italy.
