HD DVD appears to be, at last, dead
Do you hear that sound? It's the fat lady, and she's singing for HD DVD. If you're one of the unfortunate people who gambled on an HD DVD player while the format war was still raging, I have bad news for you: the format lost. It's dead, done for.
Ever since Warner bailed on the format, it's been a downhill slide for poor HD DVD. Recently, Netflix and Best Buy both decided to stop stocking the discs, and now Wal-Mart has joined the pigpile, effectively stabbing the struggling format in the heart. Congrats, Sony. Your format, Blu-ray, has emerged as the winner. Now we can all go out and buy the players without worrying about them becoming obsolete. Consider the format war over, my friends.

The war should never have happened. It's delayed the wide adoption of prerecorded HD by at least 18 months.

DONT run out and buy a Blu-Ray Player just yet next gen players supporting the 2.0 format are due out this summer and the players out now with the excption of the PS3 are not forward compatable

The best thing about the the HD-DVD that you could buy a movie anywhere in the world and it would play in your player. Blu-ray has the insane region code that now will require a new burner, software and blanks to rip the encoding off the original in order to view it. I will stick to DVD until I no longer can find them anywhere.

It will be a while before I jump on the Blue ray wagon, they seem to be having a lot of problems with their players. Also Sony with their class action suite.

I will keep my HD DVD player and it's finished specs.
I ABSOLUTLEY refuse to buy any product that Sony has anything to do with. Guess I will be waiting now on the successor to Blur-ray.
