Complex Bow Shooting Boy Robot follows elegant Japanese Karakuri styling
Bow-Shooting-Boy-Robot.jpgThe Bow Shooting Boy Robot is a fully functional archer, pulling an arrow from the fan-shaped quiver beside it, loading it on its bow, aiming and firing. Fashioned in the style of traditional Japanese Karakuri puppets — mechanized dolls dating back to as old as the 17th century — the Bow Shooting Boy Robot consists of a pedestal, the boy, and a hanging target for it to peg with an arrow. The elegance of the outside presentation is matched by the complexity of the internals: the English instructions are over 50 pages long, detailing everything from the gear assembly inside the pedestal to the proper way to dress the boy after it's constructed.

With the kit, you get almost everything you need from tools to gears and parts. You may have to import the kit if you want to build one, though the Bow Shooting Boy Robot also comes completely assembled for $300 from sellers State-side.

Had translated to Chinese in 4 空间.

I had seen one of these in a toy store window in Tokyo when I was there in June 2004. I was intrigued by it, but I couldn't work out what it actually did. It is creepy and cool. I bet William Gibson has one.
The one I found is on my flickr and shows a bit of the mechanicals inside:

It looks like something out of a creepy B movie...

Hello
This is a fantastic toy/professional, kit.
Unbelieveable in the complicated structure and the mechanism that really shoots little arrows.
WOW, Remarkable, this does show it work well!
