Bringing Mario into the real world

Intrepid tinkerer Keith Lam has created a version of the famous level 1-1 of the original Mario Bros. game in real life that's playable with a Nintendo controller. What's that mean? Well, it involves a long scroll that has the background of the game on it, and a TV that moves along it with the Mario sprite attached. You control Mario over the background.

It looks… fun? Well, maybe not as fun as the original, but certainly an interesting version of it and a unique perspective on the mechanics of side-scrolling platform-based video games. I mean, I'll stick to playing the original on the Virtual Console of the Wii, but hey, feel free to build your own contraption like this if you disagree.
