United States Library of Congress uploads thousands of pictures onto Flickr account

The Library of Congress is archiving a considerable volume of photos on the photo sharing site Flickr from the annals of American history. Its Flickr account already has over 3,000 pictures, in both black and white, and the welcome page of the account invites users to comment on, and add tags to, the photos to help the Library of Congress bolster what is historically known about them.

Right now they've got photo sets up from the early 1900's, showcasing everything from sports, aviation, images from the war, women at work and a lot more. The Library didn't shirk on image size, either — almost all of the images we clicked on were uploaded at a very viewable size. We put some of our favorites in the gallery below.
