Sony axes 80GB PS3, 120GB model rumored to follow
Sony really has problems keeping its Playstation 3 lineup stable, with adjustments seemingly being made every few months, keeping itself in the news and consumers on their toes. The latest adjustment? The 80GB model has been splashed, soon to be replaced by a rumored 120GB model, apparently.
In the end this might not be a bad strategy for Sony, as by constantly upgrading basic hardware like the hard drive size while keeping the price the same they're essentially giving customers small incremental price cuts with more reasons to adopt the console. And with more and more games finally coming out for it, the Playstation 3 might finally get its day in the sun.

PS3 price drops until now have been mostly due to hardware revision, but the HDD's also played a part in it. You tend to pay less money for HDD sizes that are in common production.
20 Gig HDD's are more expensive to produce than 40 Gigs, because there are many more people buying 40 Gigs.
60 Gig HDD's are more expensive to produce than 80 Gigs for the same reason. You basically have to pay the HDD company (like seagate) to keep a production line open just for your lone HDD's, when they have 12 other lines cranking out 120-gig drives. As time passes, the smaller drive-sizes that nobody buys anymore become more expensive to produce. This is when you have situations as with the original X-Box where the drives in it became more expensive near the end of the lifespan than at launch.
So to put it simply, Sony keeps changing the HDD sizes to keep in the "sweet spot" of drive manufacturing costs.

most games look better on the 360, ans the 360 has a lot more games out then the PS3 and the 360 is cheaper.
BUT, (while yes, I own a 360) I still keep an eye on the PS3, because its getting better over time.....and the biggest thing off all.....................It Doesn't Overheat! (yes, that was a shot at MS)

I hope this one will have the EE chip and additional USB ports (several in the back along with the standard 4 in front) and maybe ram upgrade for linux. I prefer a very high end model (with the extra USB ports and EE chips)than a the low end one (that has 2 USB ports and no PS2 compatibility). Otherwise its the XBOX 360.

if all you want the ps3 for is ps2 games and linux.....then your paying a lot of money for nothing. ps2's are like a hundred and linux is a free OS......so.....the other 300 that your shelling out goes to what exactly? douche.
