Netflix has been providing streaming movies to its customers for a while now, but it's all been trapped on that most unappealing of watching devices, the computer. I mean, who wouldn't rather just watch said streaming movies on their TV, the device that's designed for sitting and watching things? Netflix knows this, which is why it's bringing its streaming service to TVs everywhere this year.
Yes, at long last, the Netflix set-top box is coming. It'll be coming at first as a feature on LG Blu-ray/HD DVD players, but Netflix has said it wants to see it in everything from standalone boxes to video game consoles to TVs to disc players. Its success will all come down to how many titles are offered, as no one will care about being able to only get Cannonball Run 2 and not hot new releases. Pricing is still being worked out, but expect to hear a lot about this in 2008.
