We were just wondering what to do with all these old cell phones, laptops, PCs and flat panel displays that have been accumulating around here in a steadily rising junk heap that seems to have taken on a life of its own. eBay was out of the question for a lot of this rubbish, and besides, it's just too much damn trouble. Then we saw MyBoneYard, the company that recycles that old flotsam and jetsam, sends you a free shipping label—and if an item isn't completely trashed, even pays you a few bucks for it.
You're not going to get rich from this service, though. On the MyBoneYard site, there's an automated estimator for your stuff, and we tried it out: A worn-out LG 5000 cell phone wasn't worth anything, a beat-up and ancient Dell 19-inch LCD display would bring us $34, and an musty old Mac Pro would pay $63. MyBoneYard pays for shipping for nearly anything, and proceeds are paid to you in the form of a pre-paid Visa debit card. Even if there's no money coming to you, it's still good to know all that crap is being recycled for free, and will finally be gone from that junk heap in the basement. Great idea.
