Macworld 2008: A MacBook you can draw on

Axiotron Modbook flat.jpg

Take one MacBook with a 13.3-inch screen. Remove the keyboard. Replace the plastic LCD screen with scratch-resistant glass. Add Wacom graphic tablet capabilities, Apple's Inkwell handwriting recognition software and a digitized pen. Voila, the Axiotron Modbook, a Mac graphics tablet that graphics designers and other arty types are going to drop their T-squares for.

As far as we know, this is the only Apple authorized Mac that's not sold by Apple. It's available in several configurations, but the basic sets all include GPS capabilities for reasons that escape us – what does GPS have to do with graphics design? In all events, a 2 GHz processor version runs $2,290 and a 2.2 GHz engine is $2,490.

Yes, you could add on a keyboard and a mouse and turn it back into a full Mac, but that's be like removing the music from My Fair Lady to turn it back into Pygmalion.

How is this news? this Modbook tablet mac was first announced a year ago at macworld... this is just them advertising the same thing, using newer macbooks to mod. Its same features....

Cool design but i'm a little disappointed for the price :P

This is what is was looking for but cheaper. I want it because i want to do graphic drawing.

And the 2.4ghz version runs $1 billion

Apple, the land of over-expensive.

This is news to me!!!! yes a mac tablet, i have been dreaming of this!

ok? the specs SUCKS! No nvidia card, wtf that macbook is like three years old

I'd rather it flip around so you can use it as either a tablet or a normal macbook.

hey guys,
i'm serioiusly considering getting one of these.

now i'm no computer nerd, so what do you guys think?
will this mac run all the adobe cs3 programs fast enough for a graphic artist??
i don't know much about specs and all that crap.

i just need a mac that's not gonna lag whilst running all those adobe programs.
also need a tablet so thought this would be the way to go.

cheers.

Okay...

this is not a very impressive Macbook WHATSOEVER...
When you put Apple's name to something you'd expect it to be revolutionary and stunning... exactly what this is not: bulky, somewhat dated, and uses some older technology.

I have seen the concept for their MacTablet and and found it to be amazing.. basically a laptop sized iPhone in a certain sense, and it appeared to be as thick as the original iPod. It also had an integrated camera system that placed the camera (more like cameras) on between the pixels so that when you have video chats you can actually look at the screen while conversing.

This is what people need to be raving about.. not some bulky tablet that looks like someone put together in their basement..
This needs improvements and really needs to look to the future..
