KodoMobile phone released for the toddler on the go

kodomobile1.jpg

Softbank just released a brand new batch of cell phones with a special treat included designed to start your child off making calls and texting straight from the cradle. The SoftBank 820T also known as the KodoMobile (child phone) comes in flower pink, snow white and jet blue with a very FisherPrice-toy-style strap hanging from the bottom of the unit.

Included in the phone you'll find GPS technology (when you need to locate your bar hopping toddler), a crime prevention light and a fully functional camera. Scheduled to go on sale in Japan in February, you can thank the tech gods that there are no plans (yet!) to release this innocence robbing device in the United States.

This innocence robbing device as you put it is giving us and our first year elementary school child a bit of peace of mind. If you had a full time job and all of a sudden your child was finishing school at a different time every day and had to not only walk to school and home by himself everyday (school rule) but also had to get himself to and home by bus to his many afterschool activities I think you might reconsider that opinion.
If used in emergencies and is turned off during school time (as is the rule of course) then I (as a teacher) am not seeing a big problem with it. Spoiled perhaps, but if your kid feels better being only a push button away from talking to mom, dad, the babysitter or a friend if he needed to- come on, what else is a poor kid supposed to do these days? There aren't any phone boxes anywhere anymore...
