The latest grenade thrown in Japan’s never ending cute war has been issued by Softbank with the debut of its new Disney mobile phone. While some skeptics might balk at a Disney phone’s chances of success in the land of the rising sun, observers should remember that Tokyo Disneyland remains one of the most popular getaways for the locals.
The venture is officially named “Disney Mobile” and will allow the entertainment company to offer handset service as a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) via an agreement with the Japanese cell phone giant. No word on pricing, but the new service and line of phones is set to hit stores in Japan in early March.
