CES Weird: Samsung SyncMaster 2263DX monitor wants you to meet its little friend

samsung_SyncMaster-2263DX.jpg

When I used to work at a magazine, we used a page-layout program called Adobe InDesign. The program is very "palette-heavy" — it has several tiny little windows for its various tools, which inevitably lead to much clutter on the screen. Laura, the magazine's art director, used to say she'd love to have a "palette buddy": a tiny extra screen, attached to the side of her monitor, where she could put all those little windows.

Well, Laura, Samsung made your idea a reality. Its 22-inch SyncMaster 2263DX includes an extra 7-inch mini monitor that connects to the side or top of the main screen. The connection is simple plug-and-play, so it's easy to switch from one position to the other. Use it to store all your palettes, surf the Web front and center while you IM on the side (literally), or just put a big electronic stickie on it that says "I have too much screen space." It's available now for $550. Yes, Laura, there is a Santa Claus.
