CES New: Streaming HD Without Hiccups

Netgear-Kit.jpg
For high-performance network gaming and streaming high-definition videos, you need all the help you can get. Netgear’s HD/Gaming 5GHz Wireless-N Networking Kit is designed to eliminate the interference and delays that usually bring these applications to their knees, so your battle-axe-equipped machine-gun won't misfire at the wrong time.

The kit is composed of two boxes, so on one end you hook it into a router, and on the other to a media player or gaming device - - PlayStation, Xbox, Wii, TiVo HD, Slingbox, Digital Entertainer HD, Apple TV, or a network attached storage (NAS) drive like Netgear’s new ReadyNAS Duo. The system operates outside of the traffic-jammed 2.4GHz band, instead using the 5GHz band, which has many more open channels to take advantage of. Likewise, Netgear has been tricking out its new wireless gear with cutting-edge “metamaterial” antennas, and there are six of them inside the networking boxes. Cool, huh. (Now, if any of you know what this magical metamaterial might be, please drop us a line. My best bet is “plastic”). The kit is available soon for $230.
