CES New: Delphi safety net

You’re an excellent driver, right? Of course you are. And, your car has no blind spots either. Delphi is releasing a product to make sure that you maintain your flawless driving record. One of their latest innovations is an IR Side Alert blind spot detector that uses a sophisticated temperature sensor tied in with the engine speed of your car. The sensor looks for a change in temperature in the area ranging from right behind the front seats to about a yard behind the vehicle. When the Side Alert detects an obstacle within the range, it flashes an icon on your side view mirror, on the side with the obstacle. The sensor fits inside the taillight enclosure. Because it needs to know the current speed of your vehicle to determine the distance to the obstacle, this will likely remain an OEM product. The question is should we get a discount on our insurance if we have this extra safety feature installed?
