I know many people who would rather risk a speeding ticket to avoid the hassle of a radar detector, with constant false alarms. You know the drill – every time you drive past the local supermarket, your old system would give off a false alarm. The Passport 9500ci ($1995, installed) is so much smarter than the average system. Using GPS technology, it marks the location when you indicate it’s a false alarm, and then remembers it. You don’t even have to mark it. If you drive past the same area three times in a row, and it detects that you haven’t slowed down, it marks that area and will no longer react. Conversely, if you know of an area that typically has a speed trap, you can mark that location as well, and it will remind you well in advance that it’s coming up. The Passport 9500ci has front and rear laser transceivers for advanced laser jamming. Or “shifting”, as they prefer. For a price, you too can avoid false alarms. The question remains, do you want people driving faster, or does everyone except the rich have everyone stick to the limit?
