CES Weird: Tank Chair is a Showstopper

TankChair.jpg
It’s a pretty good trick to get every CES attendee who walks by to stop in their tracks at the sight of a chair. But that’s exactly what’s going down with the Tank Chair. Primarily designed for paraplegics that are looking for an off-road, all-purpose wheelchair, from the conversations I overheard, the market might much more wide open on this one.

With a top speed of 5 MPH, the Tank Chair is built on a one-piece steel chassis, and has deep rubber treads and lightweight aluminum struts. Needless to say, it will go places that normal wheelchairs can only dream about: over snow, soft sand, gravel, up steep hills and stairs, and through 18 inches of water. Maybe more wheelchair-bound folks can get in on these (supposedly inclusive) reality TV shows once these babies hit the streets…errr, beaches, jungles, and mountaintops.

Available in late January, it’s a steal at $15,600.

This should make that next movie about crazy guys on wheelchairs smashing into each other even more entertaining.

I am so thankful that CES can showcase products like this, and that bloggers like Mr. Jones choose to highlight them. It might be too late for my own child, but something like this could really change the world for others.

A couple of questions: Where is the attachment for the 40mm cannon? 2, can it open a beer? 3, how long do the batteries last?

This is what I want to see in New York's subway! If all the handicapped people in New York got these maybe MTA finally would realize that having an elevator at all trainstations would be a good idea.

With hopes for seeing one in real life,
/Lindus
