CES New: VPAD is a videophone for the deaf
Video Relay Services is a cool way that deaf people and the hard of hearing can use videophones. In a nutshell, it adds a real-time interpreter into the loop between the caller and the receiver who translates voice into sign language and vice verse. Nice, right?
Well Viable has made VRS even better with the VPAD, a portable wireless videophone designed specifically to work with VRS. It’s got a sweet 10.2-inch touchscreen and comes with a USB port, A/V inputs and outputs, some mounting hardware and both a visual and audio alert system.

It is about time because i will need use vpad at work and home. It is a lot of easy to carry vpad to anywhere :-). I need to know when Viable will sell vpad because I would like to get one.

From my understanding, VIABLE isn't ready to distribute the VPAD to Deaf and HoH communities YET but they plan on doing that in 2008. It'd be FREE to Deaf and HoH communities. You can go to www.viable.net and register yourself into there with YOUR OWN screen name and information. I suggest you to do that NOW to get the screen name you WANT. If you waited too long, then the name you want to create may be taken by other. It's for right now.

I am a little confused.. I just now read this web, http://money.cnn.com/galleries/2008/fsb/0801/gallery.CES.fsb/3.html saying that it costs approximately $399.00. But if you checked out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdfG5U7SZJ8 and you will see that the owner's son stating that it'd be FREE to the Deaf and HoH communities and won't sell the VPAD for a while.

DEAFGUYINTX, I don't see anywhere on that YouTube video clip being stated that the VPAD will be distributed to the Deaf community for free. The owner's son only simply stated that it'll be distributed to the Deaf community primarily but will eventually be on market to a much wider audience later this year. Rumors have it that it won't be free. Frankly, small businesses are expensive to operate and I for one wouldn't mind paying for the VPAD to support their business since it's clear that the VPAD is definitely the next generation of VideoPhones!

It is so great!that can using for traveling whatever to go.If my car broken down,can call towing truck,or car accident can call emergency.Can call someone where I am on way.Call relay,friends and family too.Hope I will apply for one for free or to buy it

I am looking forward to that. but We have to wait for FCC to aprove this.. This would be great for me because I am deaf.. I use VRS(VP-200) Which is great better than using TTY relay Services.. It will make the communicatation much quicker!! I would love to order one once the FCC get their butt in gear!! lol..

If anyone is interested in VPAD+ should go to website www.viable.net and get Viable 10 Digit number and purchase VPAD+ for $99. The reason why $99 is because Viable gives back to the deaf community. Plus when you purchase the VPAD+ it is yours!!!
